FOR GENERAL WELLNESS
There are very few human beings who do not
want to live long. Everybody want to live long, from all those who are in good
health and in good financial standing to those who are obviously sick but would
want to be healed so they could keep on living. Even those in abject poverty
want to continue to live in the hope that their economic plight may brighten up
in the future. Radiant health is desired by all whether rich or poor. The
following five steps are essential for maintenance of good health. They seem
very simple and probably too familiar, but they are as essential to health as
pillars are to a story or multi story building. Without pillars, the building
will collapse
1.
GENEROUSE INTAKE OF WATER AND SALT
Most of us are brought up in a tradition
that discourages water consumption. There are instances where parents scold their
children for “drinking water like rainbow”! As a result many children have
adjusted to drinking as little water as possible, being careful not to over
drink! Children invariably become adult and carry over the training from
childhood. That is why it is difficult to persuade many adult to drink plenty
of water. This is in agreement with the adage that says, “You can’t teach old
dogs new tricks”.
Water needs to be recognised for its
importance for life substance. Animals die faster if deprived of water than if
deprived of food. As batmanghelidj wrote: “Chronic unintentional dehydration is
the origin of most pain and degenerative diseases in the human body” (Phenome
NEWS, 1998: 2000:2). The message is that water is vital to life. Staying
hydrated makes you feel energetic and eat less. As a matter of fact, so many
common ailment and illnesses can be prevented and possibly even cure with an
increase intake of healthy water. Headaches, hypertension, back pain,
arthritis, ulcers, asthma, morning sickness and fatigue can all benefit and in
many cases be prevented by regulating the body’s natural fluid level. Drink and
shower with healthy water and you will experience radiant health.
A good number of people who are convinced
of the importance of water still fail to drink sufficient water. The reason
being that when water is not available and when the urge for intake of water
builds up in us we confuse it with hunger. Instead of drinking water, we go for
food, so we overeat. We eat when the body wants water. The result is, we over
eat and soon become overweight. Many of the times we draw ourselves to food, it
is water we should drink and the hunger for food will abate naturally. Do not
mistake any other fluids for water. Fruit juice, sodas, colas and alcoholic
drinks cannot take the place of water or can by any way match or fit to the
functions of water in our body system. These substances (alcohol and caffeine
in particular) do not allow water to stay in the body long enough. Within an
hour you will urinate more than the quantity of beverage that you drink! So the
beverage gives you a false sense that you have drunk large amount of water.
A good determinant of needs of water in the
body system is the colour of urine. A well hydrated person produces colourless
urine not counting the colour of vitamins or colour additives in food. A
comparatively dehydrated person produces yellow urine. In this blog post I
shall include a table showing minimum daily requirement of water for different
height and weights groups. Just glue yourself to my post and keep following me.
While you consume water, you need to
balance it up with salt intake. The rule is drink more water, take more salt.
“For every quarter of water you use, you will need to add a ¼ teaspoon of salt
to your diet”.
NOTE: The salt am referring to here is not
meant to be iodized salt, that is, table salt. Table salt is not sufficient
because it is refined and the good elements have been taken out. Good and clean
sea salt water is a better version if you can get it. Salt intake is as
important as taking the right amount of water.
The water specialist, Charles Strand,
states “while water is not an absolute cure all, we must recognize it as the
base and primary ingredient to every preventive and healing process”. It is
affirm that with proper intake of healthy water, the right minerals and
nutrient, our body can be assisted to cure illnesses that people say are
incurable.
2 GET
AT LEAST 30 MINUTES OF EXERCISE MOST DAYS OF THE WEEK
Research has shown that people who
regularly exercise are less likely to develop sickness. Our bodies are designed
to work hard and to exercise. We get tougher and stronger (muscle, organs, functions
better with stronger bones) if we exercise. Without exercise our bone soften,
our mucles atrophy and get weaker and sag and we develop pot bellies. The
automobile industry while a boom to our society, has deprived us of the major
means of exercise, walking. In the days of our fore fathers people walked
everywhere they went and they are seldom over weight. Today, you sit in an
automobile, and enter the office only to sit down for hours, except for
occasional short distance walk within the office, you return home riding in an
automobile and then sit down to watch the television. You see the reason is not
far fetched why you are overweight. Research as shown that one’s risk of dying
prematurely can be reduces by half, if one exercise every day or nearly every
day. i.e. it reduces the risk each of the following diseases to the bearest
minimum: Diabetes, depression and anxiety, heart attack, stroke, high blood
pressure etc.
NOTE: Exercise should not be painful; if
you suffer arthritis or any other ailment which prevent you from undertaking
exercise please see you doctor for best alternative ways of achieving the same
aim.
3 KEEP
YOUR WEIGHT UNDER CHECK
It has become a very common ideology among
some people that putting on weight is a sign of prosperity and well being! But
the hard cold fact is that being overweight is a matter of health concern. As rightly said by Dr. Dominguez (1982:22),
“For every pound that you are overweight, there is a fairly accurate estimate
of how much time that pound will cost you. Obesity is deadly; it opens door for
many diseases to attach its victim: hypertension, kidney, bladder and liver
disorder, diabetes, cardiovascular disorder, cancer, lung problems etc. Obesity
is a disease in itself. Note that one of the ways you can achieve maintenance
of healthy weight is through regular exercise.

GOOD FOOD IN THE RIGHT QUANTITY: Eating good food in the right amount is
prerequisite to maintaining a good healthy leaving. Eating grains and fruits
especially is a good way of maintaining a healthy diet. What can we derive from
that? Grains and fruits form the basis of any diet as they are nutritious, high
in fibre and non-fattening. As pointed out by Dr. Dminguez “A diet high in
grains and fruits will help prevent cancer, heart disease, high blood pressure,
and obesity for it is almost impossible to get fat on these food stuffs”.
As a general rule, the foods required for
proper nutrition fall into the following groups:
i.
PROTEINS: These are required
for building the body and repair of worn out cells. Food high in protein
include beans, fish, seafood eggs(without yolk) etc
ii.
CARBOHYDRATES: These are
sources of readily available energy. Surplus carbohydrates are converted by the
body to glycogen and fat, the storage forms of calories for energy. Sources
include rice, yam, sweet potatoes etc.
iii.
FAT AND OIL: These provide a
concentrated source of energy. Though a lot of fat can be harmful, but eating
some fat or oil with each meal is healthy. Sources include soyabeans, avocado,
groundnuts, salad, oil, cod-liver oil etc.
iv.
VITAMINS AND MINERALS: They are
needed for protection and well- being of the body. Deficiency of these
substances results to definite physiological disorders. These can be source
from eating varieties of fruits and vegetables.
5
TAKING ADVANTAGE OF ESSENTIAL MEDICINAL PLANT
I.
ONION: Onion is ideal for
people suffering from high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes and asthma. Eating
fresh onion a day gives abundant health. For best results, you may eat it raw
by slicing on salad or vegetable or beans.
II.
VEGETABLES: Vegetable such as
BASIL, DANDELION etc. invigorates cardiovascular system(basil), accelerates and
stimulates all digestive process(dandelion)
III.
ALOE VERA: it’s a common plant
that has several medicinal properties i.e. ANTI-CANCER, ANTI-AGEING etc.
To your successful healthy leaving… see you
